Areas of research interest
I specialize in civil law, especially family law and inheritance law. My current research interest is in the relationship between practices and theories on the marital property system, renovation of the law of succession in the light of substantial and procedural regulations, protection of residential real estates for the spouse and minor children in case of dissolution of marriage, and so on. Some people may think that the conflicts among family members are private troubles by nature and that it is not appropriate for laws and lawyers to intervene in disputes of family. However, stabilizing relationships and financial conditions of family are also directly or indirectly connected to the peace and stability of the communities and the society. Therefore, it is important to prepare legal systems which can step in the family conflicts properly and give them reasonable solutions. In legal research of family conflicts, we should keep it in mind that every rule and regulation offered by statutes or precedents is based on the tradition, culture and history of each nation and country in principle. So, comparative study of family law and inheritance law of Japan and other countries will give us a profound understanding, which enables us to obtain appropriate outcomes in dealing with family disputes.
Message to students
Civil law covers private legal relationships. In the law of family and succession, both objective validity and concrete suitability of the legal consequences have importance as well as in other fields of law. Why don’t you start your professional study of them at Yokohama National University?
