Title: Field Trip to Yokosuka with International Students
On December 26, 2024, international students joined a field trip to Yokosuka led by Emeritus Professor Koike and Professor Kabashima. Eleven international students from the Graduate School of International Social Sciences participated in the field trip.
The first destination was Memorial Ship Mikasa. The students learned about the history behind the battleship and how it came to be preserved as a memorial ship through a lecture by a preservation society member.
Then, a 10-minute ferry ride from Mikasa Terminal took us to “Sarushima,” an uninhabited island in Tokyo Bay. Under the blue sky, everyone was excited by the beautiful seascape from the ferry! On Sarushima Island, we walked and visited the historical ruins of an artillery battery and ammunition depots that remained as they were in those days. We were fascinated by the unique atmosphere created by the fusion of nature and history.
After lunch, we took a bus to Kannonzaki. While waiting for the bus at the bus stop, the students enjoyed a special lecture by Emeritus Professor Koike.
At Kannonzaki, we climbed up to the lighthouse and enjoyed the view. We also walked around Kannonzaki Park, visiting historical remains such as the ruins of an artillery battery and a monument to fallen sailors.
In the city of Yokosuka, students could learn about its history and get in touch with beautiful nature. It seems that they have gained another good memory in Japan!
